Lesley Lawson -‘The Model’ – 2.4 metres x 1.6 metres x 9cm depth. Imported Italian ‘Maimeri’ acrylic paint on 340 gsm canvas.
Lesley Lawson, known by the nickname Twiggy, is an English model, actress and singer. In the mid-1960s, she became a prominent British teenage model of swinging sixties London with others such as my mother, Lady Sarah Aspinall. They both shared a flat together and became the best of friends. Twiggy was initially known for her thin build (thus her nickname) and her androgynous look consisting of large eyes, long eyelashes, and short hair. She is incredibly iconic and one of my favourite ladies to paint. I particularly love the look of astonishment in this particular image.
